For all adventurers and lovers of sea holidays, Pomorie offers a short walk through history. If you want to not only reclassify, but also learn something new, we recommend that you visit:
The ancient tomb is located immediately before the entrance to the town of Pomorie in the direction from Burgas under an embankment of a burial mound. This is one of the first places that guests of our hotel visit.
The ancient tomb is a monument of Thracian construction from the Roman era. It was the mausoleum of an enviable Anchial Thracian family, it is the largest and the only one of its kind on the Balkan Peninsula. It is also known as the “Hollow Mound”. The name comes from the presence of a hollow column inside, where religious rituals related to the cult of the sun were performed.
Anyone who chooses our hotel in Pomorie can enjoy the historical wealth of the city. The ancient tomb is open year-round with different opening hours in the summer and winter months.
The Salt Museum is a year-round tourist attraction. Its main goal is the preservation and promotion of the cultural heritage of ancient Anchialo. The museum is the only one of its kind in Bulgaria and Eastern Europe and presents ancient Anchial technology for the production of sea salt.
In ancient times, salt was a rare and valuable commodity, so it was called “white gold”. According to historians, salt extraction in Pomorie dates back to before the foundation of Ancient Anchialo (5th century BC).
Everyone who chooses our spa hotel can learn about the history of salt. They will have the opportunity to see “live” the process of collecting salt on about 20 decares of operating saltworks. Interestingly, salt is mined in the same way as it was done in ancient times. The technology has been practiced for more than 25 centuries.
Don’t miss to see the hall in the museum, equipped with modern audio and video equipment. It contains extensive photographic material and copies of documents, models, authentic tools and equipment such as wooden carts, oars and tools. A part of the narrow gauge railway for transporting the salt has been restored.
The museum works all year round, but its working hours are different during the winter months /15.09 – 15.06/ and during the summer season /15.06 – 15.09/.
The historical museum is another valuable treasure from the past that guests of our hotel can explore. The museum building, which is a cultural monument, was built at the end of the 19th century. It is famous for originally being a Greek girls’ school.
The exposition provides information about the rich ethnic diversity and cultural characteristics of the population of Anchialo, consisting of Greeks, Thracians and Macedonians.
You will have the opportunity to see a rich collection of unique exhibits related to the different periods of the history of the city of Pomorie, including coins from the Roman era of ancient Anchialo and a variety of medieval finds such as head and body ornaments.
